Workhand vs Buildertrend

Buildertrend is the gold standard for production homebuilders running 50+ projects a year. For the rest of us, working GCs, remodelers, subs, and project trades like pool and fence, the price is wild and most of the platform sits unused. Here's the honest comparison.

Common questions

I run a custom homebuilder operation. Should I use Workhand?

Probably not. Buildertrend is genuinely better for production custom homebuilders. Draw schedules and warranty claim management are core to your workflow and Workhand doesn't have them. Workhand has a customer selections sheet but isn't built for the AIA-style scale Buildertrend runs at. We're aimed at working contractors running 1 to 15 person crews who don't need that complexity.

Can I migrate from Buildertrend?

Yes. Customers, jobs, and estimates can be exported from Buildertrend as CSV and imported into Workhand. We help with first-time migrations on Pro and Team plans, email [email protected].

What about AIA progress billing?

Not in v1. If draw schedules are your daily reality, Buildertrend wins. If you bill flat-fee or 50/30/20 progress payments, Workhand handles that fine through standard estimates and recurring invoices.

Do I need an annual contract?

No. Month-to-month, cancel any time. Buildertrend typically requires an annual prepay; we don't.

What about implementation help?

We don't charge an onboarding fee. The app is designed to be self-serve, sign up, create your first job, send your first estimate. Total time: about 15 minutes. If you want hands-on help we'll set up a 30-minute call free for Pro and Team plans.

14-day free trial. No sales call. No annual contract.

Try Workhand on a real job. If it doesn't fit, walk away. Free plan handles your first job at $0/month.
